Effective August 1, 2026

Last updated August 1, 2026

Welcome to the WeMakeDevs hackathon platform (the “Platform”), operated by WeMakeDevs Limited (“WeMakeDevs,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Platform, including account registration, hackathon participation, and any related services. By creating an account, registering for a hackathon, or otherwise using the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.

1. Who We Are

WeMakeDevs Limited is registered in the United Kingdom, with our registered office at 128 City Road, London, United Kingdom, EC1V 2NX. You can reach us at contact@wemakedevs.org for any questions about these Terms.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and use the Platform on your own behalf. If you are under 18, you may only use the Platform with the consent of a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to be bound by these Terms on your behalf.

During registration, you will be asked to confirm this by checking a box confirming that you are 18 or older, or that you have obtained parental or guardian consent. By checking this box, you are making a legal representation to us, and you agree that WeMakeDevs may rely on it.

The Platform is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without appropriate consent. If we learn that we have done so, we will take steps to delete that information.

3. Your Account

  • You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information when creating an account, and to keep it up to date.
  • You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for all activity that happens under your account.
  • You must notify us promptly at contact@wemakedevs.org if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
  • Each person may hold one account, unless we expressly permit otherwise.
  • We may suspend or terminate your account if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms.

4. Code of Conduct

All use of the Platform, including hackathon participation, is subject to our Code of Conduct. By using the Platform, you agree to follow it. Violations can result in warnings, disqualification from a hackathon or prize eligibility, or removal from the Platform and our community spaces, as described in the Code of Conduct.

5. Hackathon Participation Rules

In addition to the Code of Conduct, the following apply to all hackathons run on the Platform:

  • No cheating. This includes submitting someone else’s work as your own, plagiarizing existing projects, or misrepresenting what you built during the hackathon window.
  • Submissions found to violate this rule may be disqualified at any time, including after judging or after a winner has been announced, and without prior notice to the participant.
  • Specific hackathons may have additional rules (team size, allowed tools, submission deadlines, judging criteria), which will be published on that hackathon’s page and form part of these Terms for that event.
  • Decisions on disqualification, judging, and prize eligibility are made at WeMakeDevs’ and/or the relevant judges’ discretion and are final.

6. Intellectual Property

Your submissions. You retain full ownership of the projects, code, and other content you submit to a hackathon (“Submissions”). By submitting, you grant WeMakeDevs, and the sponsors of that specific hackathon, a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to access, display, demonstrate, and evaluate your Submission for purposes of judging, event promotion, and showcasing hackathon outcomes. This license does not transfer ownership, and you’re free to use, license, or publish your Submission elsewhere.

Our platform. The Platform itself, including its design, branding, and underlying code, is owned by WeMakeDevs or our licensors. Nothing in these Terms gives you rights to our trademarks or platform code beyond what’s needed to use the Platform as intended.

7. Sharing Your Data with Sponsors

When you register for a hackathon that has sponsors, we may share your account information and your registration answers for that hackathon with the specific sponsors associated with it. We only do this where you have opted in, which happens in one of two ways: you tick the sponsor-sharing checkbox during registration, or you voluntarily present your event badge to be scanned at a sponsor’s booth at an in-person event. Scanning your badge is treated as your consent to share your contact details with that sponsor. This mirrors the consent mechanism described in our Privacy Policy. Sponsors who receive your data act as independent controllers of that data and are responsible for their own use of it.

8. Prizes

Some hackathons on the Platform offer prizes. Where they do:

  • Eligibility, prize value, and delivery terms are set out on the individual hackathon’s page.
  • Prizes are not guaranteed, may be substituted with items of equal or greater value at our discretion, and are subject to the participant complying with these Terms, the Code of Conduct, and the specific hackathon’s rules.
  • You are solely responsible for any taxes or reporting obligations arising from prizes you receive.

9. Infrastructure and Data Processors

To operate the Platform, we rely on the following infrastructure providers, who process data on our behalf as Data Processors:

We may update this list as our infrastructure changes. The current list will always be reflected here and in our Privacy Policy. We are not liable for outages, errors, or issues caused by these third-party providers, beyond what’s required by applicable law.

10. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The Platform is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, WeMakeDevs will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Platform.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Platform at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice, particularly where we believe you’ve violated these Terms or the Code of Conduct. You may stop using the Platform and delete your account at any time by contacting us.

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Platform will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms at any time, with or without notice. The “Effective” and “Last updated” dates at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version, so please check back periodically. Your continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. Our Privacy Policy may be updated on the same basis.

14. Data and Account Deletion

If you’d like your account or associated data deleted, contact us at contact@wemakedevs.org and we’ll take care of it. See our Privacy Policy for more on how we handle data retention and deletion.

15. General

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest will remain in effect. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Code of Conduct, make up the entire agreement between you and WeMakeDevs regarding your use of the Platform. Our failure to enforce any part of these Terms is not a waiver of our right to do so later.
